VACATION!

Last Friday was my last day working full-time at SPU. I had the privilege of spending 5 days with Kristin, the terrific gal who accepted the position. She is a perfect fit for the office and she picked up on things so quickly and easily.

Saturday morning we left town bright and early for vacation. We stopped in Kelso (the half-way point) on our trip to visit with family friends. What a joy that was to spend 2-1/2 hours visiting with them, which also allowed us time to eat lunch, for us to change Jay shortly after he majorly filled his diaper, and time for Jay to nurse before we got back on the road again.

WE LOVE CANNON BEACH! This is the third year Matt's side of the family comes and stays here during this week and everyone in the same sleeping rooms. We've built traditions such as the guys go golfing one morning together while the gals watch the kids, then the guys care for the kids while the girls get away for a meal together, we typically build a sand sculpture together, we take family photos, we stroll down main street and visit the candy and ice cream shops, etc. This year we're planning to take a family photo -- Nana, PopPop, us, Traci's family, and Shawn's family -- on the beach. That photo I hope to post later (we're planning to take that photo later today if all goes well).

Below are some photos we took yesterday. Of course it happens to be the day I was scuzzy (hey, it's vacation!) - but more importantly yesterday marked Jay's 3 month birthday. Yes - he is officially 3 months old now! Hooray!

Jay & Samantha Today

Jay is generally a happy, content little boy - and here's proof! Here he is loving his time with Cousin Samantha today.

My last day working at SPU is this Friday...can't wait to be home with this great guy full-time.

Shopping & Preseason Football

I woke up this morning and decided it was high time to hit the mall! It has been eons since I went clothing shopping and I was in desperate need for something new. So off we departed for Southcenter Mall. We first had a good bite of lunch at Chipotle, then we checked out Nordstrom Rack and then to Southcenter Mall where I heard of a great new clothing store I was excited to check out for myself. The store lived up to what I'd heard...H&M was terrific! But super busy with lots of shoppers today. I was able to choose a few items, stood in line and tried the items on, and ended up purchasing two things - a cute white tank top which I plan to layer with and a t-shirt in a pretty deep purple.

By then little Jay was super ready for his late lunch, so I purchased the two items (after standing in line for a while) and rushed out to the car where Jay and Dad Matt waited. We drove home to meet my sister Molly and boyfriend Scott. They dropped by for a short visit.

After Jay woke up from his mid-afternoon nap, Dad and Jay sat down to watch the Seahawks play their first home preseason game on tv.

I think I see a resemblance. Do you?

After these pictures were taken Jay received his evening bath and now he is about to have his last meal of today. He is now consistantly sleeping 7, 8, or 9 hours every night. Hooray!!

Pediatrician Appointment

Today was Jay's 2 month pediatrician appointment (even though he's 10 weeks or 2-1/2 mo. old).

Today's Weight: 11 lbs., 6 oz. - 50th percentile
Today's Length/Height: 23-1/2" - 75th percentile
Today's Head Circumference: 39-1/2" - 50th percentile

Compare those to these stats from his 1 month pediatrician appointment on July 2.

Weight: 8 lbs., 1 oz. - 10th to 25th percentile
Length/Height: 22-1/4" - 75th percentile
Head Circumference: 37-1/2" - 25th percentile

Why the sad face and bandaids? Because he was given 5 immunizations today. The first one was the Rotavirus Vaccine given to him orally. The rotavirus helps protect against getting severe diarrhea accompanied by vomiting and fever. He really liked that one. The nurse said it was sweet tasting - and that seemed to be true since he smacked his mouth and gladly swallowed it.

Then he was given 2 vaccines in one thigh and the last 2 vaccines in his other thigh. Those made him cry, but thankfully the nurse was quick and I was able to scoop him up in my arms to comfort him shortly after. He was given the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine to help protect against meningitis, blood infections, and ear infections; the Hib Vaccine to protect against serious bacterial diseases like pneumonia; Diptheria Tetanus & Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Vaccines; and a Polio Vaccine.

He is doing fine tonight - being his normal, happy-go-lucky self. We'll be watching for potential fever tomorrow and if he runs a fever we'll give him a dose or two or three of Children's Tylenol.

Fast asleep on Mom - what a great nap!

As you can see, Jay is GROWING and sleeping more because of it. He is regularly giving the Worthington family a full night of sleep now. Hooray!

NINE HOURS OF SLEEP

I couldn't believe it! Jay slept nearly nine hours last night. NINE! It gave me a new appreciation of how nice uninterrupted sleep can be.

I must admit, though, at the 8 hour mark I got up and watched him for a good 10 minutes. First, to see if he was alive (and hadn't suffocated - the funny things you think when you are having a hard time believing what just happened). Second, to see if he was going to wake up at any moment. After 10 minutes elasped I decided the movements were just him stirring in his sweet sleep, so I made myself more comfortable by pumping and then went about my morning.

Just when I was going to step in the shower to ready myself for work, he woke up. But I didn't mind. I smiled sweetly at him as he drank the freshly pumped milk from his bottle.

Bath, Blue Angels, Baby, and Blessings

We sure had a fun weekend!

We started the weekend Friday night giving Jay a bath. Every baby must have the obligatory bath photos, right?

Mom, must you take a photo of me in the bath??

Saturday afternoon we met up with our friends Mark and Rachel for a bite of lunch and then we all walked to the I-90 bridge to watch the Blue Angels perform for Seattle's Seafair celebration. It was a beautiful afternoon. We all got a slight shade of pink from the sun - lesson learned! Sunscreen is a must. Thankfully I put a baseball cap on Jay's head and I did what I could to shield him from the sun so Jay did just fine. He fell asleep in the Bjorn on the walk there and took his long afternoon nap through almost the entire outing.

And here are some favorite photos of Jay from this past weekend, too.

Below: Jay dressed in his "Sunday best" - ready for church!
Thanks Aunt Julie for this cute outfit. The little loafers are so cute on him, too (he kicked them off just before this photo was taken). He is getting to be such a little man already!

Later Sunday afternoon Matt's Mom and Dad arrived from Oregon (Pop Pop and Nana to Jay). Nana is taking care of Jay for the next two weeks while Matt and I work. I have three more weeks of work before I am home with Jay full-time. Matt and I can't say it enough: what a blessing it is to have family so willing to help us out in this way.

My brother Scott was headed to Florida on Sunday for a business trip when he unexpectantly had to endure an 8-hour layover in Seattle. So my sister Molly and her boyfriend Scott picked up brother Scott from the airport. The three of them stopped at the new Renton Seahawks facility for a tour. (Boyfriend Scott works for First and Goal.) After the tour they came to our condo in Bellevue for a BBQ dinner. What a great time we all had! Jay showed off his "stuff" for the fam - laughing and smiling and "talking".
